Welcome back and Happy New Year. I hope all our students/parents/guardians had a restful and invigorating Winter Break. With only nine days of classes remaining this semester/term, it is essential for students to ensure that they are working diligently to maximize their achievement. Submitting final assignments and taking advantage of reassessment will be critical in the final two weeks.

Fine Arts
Congratulations to the CHS Music Department who put on a spectacular performance at their annual Winter Concert. The Wilson Gym was packed to capacity to listen to the amazing band and choir performances led by Ms. Ploughman and Ms. Jones. $900 was raised to support the band trip to Nova Scotia at the end of April.

Athletics
Congratulations to Gage Nagassar and Tej Madan on being selected to the South Team for the Football Alberta Senior Bowl. Also, congratulations to three members of our CHS football coaching staff. Mr. Ledieu was the Head Coach, Mr. Bec was the Linebackers Coach, and Mr. Franssen was the Offensive Line Coach for the south provincial football team. The South Team beat the North Alberta Senior Team 32-2.

Cosmetology Competition
Congratulations to the following students who competed in the 5th annual Rocky View Schools Cosmetology Competition. This competition was created by the Cosmetology teachers in RVS and was a great experience for the students. Our students represented the school well with the following achievements:

  • McKenna Thiessen- 1st place Braiding
  • Marcaid Langrell- 3rd place Braiding
  • Kendra Waldrum- 2nd place FX Makeup

Diploma Exams
Just a reminder that Diploma Exams will be written in the South Gym, Drama Room, and Learning Commons on Wednesday and Thursday this week, as well as between January 19-30, 2024. Students are reminded to respect the quiet zones around the Diploma Exams and that there will be no announcements or bells on those days. I will be sending a complete informational email to all grade 11 and 12 students with detailed expectations for Diploma Exams.

RVS Inclement Weather Protocols
Please be advised that in the case of an inclement weather school closure or buses not running, notices will be issued from RVS through the School Messenger system.

Environment Canada is forecasting very cold weather for the coming days. According to Rocky View Schools Administrative Procedure AP600, RVS High Schools are designated Diploma Exam writing locations and will be open to all students writing Diploma Exams regardless of whether buses are running, or the school is closed due to cold weather. To be clear, even in the case of a general school closure and if buses are not running due to inclement weather, RVS High School campuses will be open for students writing Grade 12 Diploma exams.

The last day of classes will be Thursday, January 18, 2024.
Final Reassessment Week is January 19 - 26, 2024.

Students are reminded to dress warm as the weather is predicted to drop considerably this week. Students are also reminded of all the places available to eat their lunch indoors: the North Social and attached classrooms, as well as the South Gym and classrooms down to the Wellness Centre.

Land Acknowledgment

Rocky View Schools would like to acknowledge the land and recognize all the Indigenous Peoples whose footprints have marked these lands from time immemorial. Together, we can learn and honour the Ways of Knowing of Indigenous Peoples for all future generations.
